Just out of a local house is this fine Japanese woodblock by the artist Shima Tamami b. She graduated in 1958 from the Women’s College of Fine Arts. She received a travel grant from the College Women’s Association of Japan in 1962. She is noted for her woodblock prints of rhythmic fanciful birds she produced in the 1960’s. This print is from a limited edition of 100 done in 1961. It is numbered 96/100. The print depicts a fanciful, colorful, abstract representation of a rooster. With its original black bamboo style frame it measures about 21 3/4 inches high and about 15 5/8 inches wide. The double matted image alone measures 15 inches high and about 9 7/8 inches wide. The woodblock is signed and numbered in the lower margin. It is in excellent condition. See photos as they are part of the description.
