“Dream” by Kaoru Kawano, a stunning Wood Block Print using paint onto Japanese rice paper, not a reproduction. Stamped on the back with another block mark. There is a pencil mark on the bottom left-hand margin. It came from the estate of a collector who spent time in Japan during and brought home many valuable collectibles. And his brother was a war Photographer and also in Japan. It’s in vintage condition with signs of wear and age. Mainly in the discoloration of the white border. Pictures show any flaws. But the painting itself does not show any flaws to my untrained eye. The full sheet is 17″ x 11 1/2″ and the painting is 14.75″ x 9 1/2″. The back at the frame is wood with a wire hanger. The thin black frame appears to be handmade of wood, painted black. The white frame mat is discolored from age. Born in Hokkaido in 1916, Kawano studied at Kawabata Art School during the 1930s. He gained an international his reputation through successful solo exhibitions in North America and elsewhere. His prints frequently depict children and animals, combining Western-style elements with the tradition of woodblock printmaking. Kaoru Kawano’s works are also appreciated for the way in which they incorporate the woodgrain of the block into the design. Size of image (not including boarder): 14.75″ × 9.25″ and 17 long overall. This Dream by Kaoru Kawano wood block print on rice paper is a limited edition handmade original from Japan. The portrait orientation and medium size make it a unique addition to any art collection. The stamp and signature add authenticity to this one-of-a-kind piece, making it a valuable and nostalgic treasure for art enthusiasts.

Kaoru Kawano “Dream” Woodblock Print 1950’s. This print has the appearance of texture between the red, black and silver on this print is amazing. It changes with the light and perspective. Paper is 11 1/4″ x 16 1/2″ with torn top and bottom edges. Print is 9 1/4 by 13 7/8. Kawano’s seal is on the top right corner. Ready to be framed and displayed.
