This is ATOZURI (referring to the second and subsequent prints). This print is the TANSEI-SHA version, supervised by Dr. NARASAKI, a doctor of literature, and credited to. UETANI SADAO as the woodblock carver and SASAKI SHIGERU as the printer. It is the most highly regarded of the later prints. This depicts a woman applying makeup, which can be considered GOYO’s masterpiece. The original was published in 1918. The rank is [A], but there is no major damage. Frames and mats are not evaluated. S:: Same quality as new. A: Excellent condition with no noticeable damage. B: Sense of use, but not bothersome. C: Normal, with scratches, stains, and other signs of use. D: Used item, may have scratches, stains, or other damage. E: Used item with use and damage. W: Items that are junk and badly damaged. V: Items belonging to vintage or antique and may be damaged in some way. There are no stains or wrinkles. The condition is very good. The work comes with double packaging. It comes with a square frame paper, which is necessary for framing prints, so you can easily frame it as is. All are shown in the images. Please be sure to check the details in the image. Very elegant and lovely print from rare commemorative limited edition. Unfortunately, he died very young, at only 41 years old. First edition prints of Goyo’s works are very expensive. The original blocks for his works were destroyed in the great earthquake of 1923. Fortunately, in the mid 20th century his heirs gave two of Japan’s finest woodblock printers, Tanseisha and Yuyudo, permission to publish very small limited commemorative editions of his masterworks. The prints from these editions were skillfully printed from meticulously recarved blocks and are of the highest quality. This beautiful print is from the Tanseisha C ommemorative Limited Edition. Instead of following in the footsteps of the earlier ukiyo-e artists who most often chose their models from the famous courtesans of their time, Goyo preferred of paint the geishas, waitress and maids of his era. Stunning portrait of a nude after her bath. Her delicate skin is beautifully framed by a shimmering silver mica background.
