This artwork is an original Japanese woodblock triptych print titled. True View of Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom at Kiyomizu Hall in Ueno Park, Tokyo. Triptych (composed of three separate vertical panels designed to be viewed side-by-side). The print depicts Empress Meiji alongside her ladies-in-waiting and high-ranking court officials viewing blooming cherry trees next to the Kiyomizu-do (Kiyomizu Hall) temple complex in Ueno Park. (modernization/enlightenment) genre of the Meiji period. It highlights the juxtaposition of traditional attire alongside Western top hats, military uniforms, and umbrellas imported during Japan’s rapid modernization. The deep, intense pigments used-particularly the pinks and purples-were achieved using synthetic aniline chemical dyes newly imported from Germany. Based on the back side of your triptych, this piece provides valuable information regarding its physical condition, production process, and history. Key Observations from the Back Side. The panels have been. Re-backed with scrap paper and old manuscript pages. Containing cursive Japanese calligraphy. This was a common historical practice used to reinforce thin, fragile. Paper or to patch up tears and wormholes. You can clearly see the vibrant aniline reds, purples, and blues bleeding through the paper. This high degree of bleedthrough is a primary indicator of a. As the pressure of the bamboo rub-pad. Forces the wet ink deep into the fibers of the paper. Modern machine reproductions or lithographs typically do not show this kind of rich, reverse-image bleedthrough. There are visible vertical seams, overlapping patches, and minor edge fraying where the panels were previously joined or repaired. While backing paper successfully preserves the structural integrity of a print, it can sometimes obscure the original translucent quality of the. Paper and cover up publishers’ marks or dates hidden on the reverse. In the antique print market, historical backing is generally accepted, though a print that is completely unbacked and in pristine condition typically commands a premium. Otherwise, the product is non refundable. That’s why I ask potential buyers for a discussion about the condition and quality of the product. Warehouse of Treasure #3-17-7.
