BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE WOODBLOCK PRINT, BY JAPANESE ARTIST, SHUZO IKEDA, ENTITLED’GIRL WITH SUNFLOWER’! SIGNED BY THE ARTIST, AND NUMBERED. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! MARKED SHUZO IKEDA’69 51/100. MEASURING 11X15 PRINT APPROX. WEIGHS 4 LBS 2 OZ. Shuzo Ikeda was born in 1922 in Akita prefecture (died 2004). In 1945 he graduated from Tokyo Higher Normal School. After a few years of teaching art, Shuzo Ikeda became a member of the artist association Nihon Hanga Kyokai, and Shuzo Ikeda turned to woodblock printmaking. (‘moku hanga’) as a professional full-time artist. Shuzo Ikeda is especially good in integrating the texture of the woodblock grain into his print designs. The Feelings of an Era. The art style of Shuzo Ikeda represents in my view the spirit of the years of the late 1950s until early 1980s. It was the period of a prosperous post-war economy and of great cultural changes in the industrialized Western nations, in the way of life, music and fashion. In my view, Ikeda’s images “breathe” this era pretty much. If you happen to belong to a generation that was born before 1950 maybe you may have the same feelings when looking at the artist’s prints.

One print of “Zuigetsu Soka Gafu”. Year of publication: 1932. Print Size 47×34cm(18.6×13.4 inch). Creasing and light spotting to the hold-down paper, and creasing to the corners of the illustrated margins. He then went to Kyoto in 1906 to study under Kijima Sakuraya. Around 1910, he opened a painting school in Kanazawa. Around this time, he began to work on sketching plants and made sketches of plants all over Japan. This item is not new.
