This woodblock illustrates the legend of Obasute, an interesting tale of Japan’s treatment. The man is carrying his mother on his back to the mountains where she will. Be left to die. She is breaking off branches and leaving a trail for her son to find his way back. It goes on (do a search). The 3-part print by Fugimara Shin’ichi is 28 1/4″ x 14 1/4″ on wove paper. It was done in 1894. It’s in good condition with creases and a few light foxing spots.
