Rare Japanese Woodblock Print by Hakuho Hirano “Before the Mirror” Signed 1932. We are offering truly stunning early edition Japanese Woodblock print by Hirano Hakuho. Beautiful and elegant pose of Geisha. This is a rare print to find online. Print has few yellow spots, marks, could be from previous framing. Dimensions of the print: 14″x10″ Print is mounted on heavy stock cardboard. With quiet compositions, subtle color schemes, playful textures, and an exquisite print formatting epitomizing 1930s bijin-ga, Hirano Hakuho was a nihonga and ukiyo-e style artist born in Kyoto in 1879. A highly obscure individual, virtually nothing is known of Hirano’s personal or professional life. Throughout the 1930s, he produced a set of five bijin-ga prints published by Watanabe Shozaburo, including After a Bath (1932) and Before the Mirror (1932). Print is signed by the artist in plate. The Hand Mirror (Blue) 1998 Very rare work by Japanese design icon Ichiro Tsuruta. This is Printers Proof for an edition of 200. Hand numbered and signed Ichiro Tsuruta. There is another state of this print with a pink background. The bulk of his work has moved through silkscreen and lithograph, now to Giclee. I have only seen two other examples of his designs executed in the woodcut medium. This is a handmade item that did not fall out of a printer.
