This premium Toyohara Kunichika Art Print is reproduced in the USA by Texas Art Warehouse in a variety of sizes and materials including rolled paper, rolled canvas, gallery wrap canvas and float framed canvas (choose from the dropdown box). Born in Tokyo, he apprenticed under the renowned artists Kunisada and Chikanobu, combining their names to create his professional identity. Kunichika specialized in yakusha-e-dramatic depictions of kabuki actors-becoming celebrated for his intimate knowledge of theatrical life. His distinctive style featured vivid reds and deep purples derived from imported German aniline dyes, departing from the softer palettes of earlier ukiyo-e masters. Recognized as a top artist throughout his career, Kunichika received commissions for the 1867 Paris International Exposition. His works, such as Chotto Hitokuchi Hauta no Ateburi and The 53 Paulownia Trees at the Tower Gate, exemplify his mastery of the medium as Japan transitioned into the modern era. He is regarded as the last great master of ukiyo-e. All products are made by our printing and framing partner in the USA. Rabbit on the full moon. A Japanese painter and printmaker. His artistic names were Koson, Shoson, and Toyoson. After studying Japanese painting under Suzuki Kason, he produced hand-painted flower and bird paintings. Possibly from a Respected Publisher (Adachi, Takamizawa, or Watanabe). These publishers are known for producing museum-grade reprints. Some of their editions do not have visible seals. No guarantee, but paper quality and printing style resemble known reprints. ? Hand-Printed Using Traditional Methods. Raised ink texture suggests authentic woodblock printing, not digital. Reverse-side ink impression is a common feature in woodblock prints. ? Rare Small-Format Woodblock Print. Most reprints of The Great Wave are full-sized (10″x15″). This 6″x4″ format is less common, making it an interesting collector’s item. ? Not an Original Edo-Period Print (1831) – This is a later reprint. ? No Publisher’s Seal Found – This means the exact origin is unknown. ? Glue Residue on Back and slightly torn back – it was previously mounted and then removed but does not affect artwork. HOWEVER – I do offer a 30 day guarantee, this piece is very unique and you can feel the textured surface indicating woodcut pressed and you can see that it’s not normal paper, it looks like what I’ve seen online for handmade paper. I have not seen another of this size (6 inches by 4 inches).
