Modern Japanese woodblock print (known as Shin-hanga). Published by the renowned Uchida Art Company. It depicts one of the most famous characters in Kabuki theater. He was known for his mastery of theatrical subjects, combining traditional Ukiyo-e styles with a more modern, decorative aesthetic. The vertical script on the bottom right reads “Sansei Hasegawa Sadanobu”. , identifying him as the third generation of the Sadanobu line. Publisher Seal: The octagonal black seal at the very bottom is the Uchida Hanmoto seal. Uchida was a major publisher in Kyoto that specialized in producing high-quality prints for both domestic collectors and the international market. The print depicts the hero Kamakura Gongoro Kagemasa from the celebrated Kabuki play Shibaraku Wait a Moment! He wears the iconic su. (oversized robe) featuring the Mimasu crest (three nested squares), which is the symbol of the Ichikawa Danj. His face is painted in Kumadori (red stripes on a white base), which signifies a character of great power, righteousness, and heroic anger. While Sadanobu III began his career in the early 20th century, this specific edition was likely produced in the mid-20th century, specifically between 1950 and 1960. Framed size: 17.5 inches in length and 22.5 inches in height. Image dimensions: 10.5 inches in length and 15.5 inches in height. This woodblock print is presented in a frame and remains in its original condition. The frame exhibits some scratches and dents as a result of its age. Please carefully review all pictures attached.
