Authentic mid-20th century Japanese sosaku-hanga woodblock print by S. Konishi, depicting an intimate family scene titled “Older Sister and Younger Brother”. This print was self-carved and self-printed by the artist, as indicated by the Japanese text (jikoku jizuri) along the lower margin-hallmark language of the sosaku-hanga (creative print) movement. Unlike traditional ukiyo-e, sosaku-hanga artists controlled the entire process, emphasizing personal expression and modern themes. The composition features muted post-war tones with a striking indigo garment pattern, expressive yet restrained facial rendering, and visible hand-carved texture throughout. Printed on handmade Japanese washi (mulberry) paper using traditional water-based pigments. This work reflects post-WWII Japanese modernism, focusing on family, resilience, and everyday life-common themes of the era.
