Gold Beetle and Frogs. Series Ehon mushi erami (The Insect Book). Technique: Japanese woodblock print. 38 × 26.5 cm (14.96 × 10.43 inches). Description: This is a later edition, traditionally hand-printed from re-carved woodblocks. It is not an original Edo-period print, but an authentic hand-printed woodblock print, produced using traditional Ukiyo-e techniques on Japanese washi paper. The visible pigment bleed-through on the reverse is a natural result of traditional hand-printing and a characteristic of authentic woodblock prints. We sell only authentic traditional Japanese hand-printed woodblock prints, including later re-carved or later edition works. We do not handle modern machine-made prints, offset prints, or modern printed copies of any kind. All prints in our store are genuine te-zuri (hand-printed) woodblock prints, carefully hand-printed by skilled Japanese artisans using traditional Ukiyo-e techniques on authentic Japanese washi paper. The visible pigment bleed-through on the reverse side is a natural characteristic of hand printing and a clear sign that this is not a reproduction or machine-made print. Vintage Japanese Print Kintaro and Yamauba. Image originally found as Kitagawa Utamaro in regular woodblock print. This is very thin and translucent black and white washi lightly adhered to art board. See last 2 images where I lifted it carefully. Does not seem like a regular woodblock. Same image as Utamaro but in black and white. The 3 mountain symbol is the same as Utamaro–I assume the title. Matted 23″ x 29 1/2″ – Actual paper size 18 1/2″ x 24 1/4″. Anyone that can shed some light on this for me would be appreciated.

This hand-printed woodblock print, meticulously restored by the Adachi Hanga Research Institute, is a faithful reproduction of “Toji Zensei Bijin-zoroi: Matsubaya-nai Some-nosuke – Wakaki Wakaba” (Array of the Most Prosperous Beauties of the Time: Some-nosuke of Matsubaya – Young Tree, Fresh Leaves) by Kitagawa Utamaro, one of the most renowned Ukiyo-e artists of the Edo period.
