Published by Uchida, probably in the 1950’s. 15.6 in x 10.7 in. Haunting woodblock of people walking down the famous Cedar lined road by lamplight. “Nikko suginamiki” (Cedar Tree Avenue in Nikko). Nicely framed in acid free materials, adding to the value and preserving this piece. EIICHI KOTOZUKA was Kyoto based and studied at the Kyoto Specialist School of Painting. One of four artists who founded a co-operative publishing company in the 1940’s called Koryokusha in an effort to gain an artistic expression free of the demands and guidance of the major publishing houses. During his lifetime he created an impressive number of woodblocks depicting scenes of traditional Japanese culture, flowers, landscapes and wildlife. He was a member of the Seiryusha Group of Liberal Artists and died in 1979. Kotozuka was involved in the Sosaku Hanga movement, a printing process with greater direct artist involvement. Prior to Sosaku Hanga, an artist created an illustration which would then be passed to a team of engravers, printers, and publishers who would each affect the production of the final print. In Sosaku Hanga the artist was much more directly involved with each step of the process and the original vision of the artist was more accurately conveyed. Kotozuka has not yet been properly recognized by the majority of collectors, but deserves a prominent place.

As found on Fujita site: Fumio Fujita is recognized as a significant figure within the sosaku hanga art movement of Japanese post-war woodblock printmaking. He earned his degree from the oil painting department of the Musashino College of Fine Arts. Fujita’s artistic focus lies in depicting landscapes, which he simplifies to their essential design elements and lines while maintaining a representational style. His works have garnered popularity among art collectors. Fumio Fujita, born in Aichi province in 1933, graduated from the renowned Musashino College of Fine Arts in 1955. In 1963, he embarked on creating woodlbock prints in the. While his primary subjects often revolve around landscapes with a focus on trees, this theme gained popularity among Japanese printmakers following the success of another artist, Joichi Hoshit who achieved fame for predominantly creating tree-centric images. Up for sale is this Vintage Benji Asada Woodblock Print. This is the Pagoda of Ninnaji Temple Cherry Trees of Omuro in Kyoto Japan. Paper measures 15 3/4″ X 10.5″. The soft pink cherry blossoms in the foreground stand in stark contrast to the imposing dark pagoda in the distance. Ninnaji Temple, the head temple of the Omuro school of the Shingon Sect of Buddhism, is located in western Kyoto. Established in 888 AD by the retired Emperor Uda, it is part of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
