This is an original Japanese mid-Showa Era c. 1950’s guaranteed original. (wood block print) titled Ame no Miyajima (“Miyajima in the rain”) by artist Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870 -1949). The artist’s seal and signature is present in the bottom left corner of the image (see picture 4). While the date on the right margin states “July of Showa 16th” (1940) the publisher. Doi’s “E Seal” is present in the left margin using Harada as the carver would. Indicate a printing date in the 1950’s. The print is “oban” sized and measures roughly 16 1/2″ x 11 1/4″ (42 / 32 cm) including the margins. In very fine condition with deep rich colors. There are remnants of tape on the reverse top from previous mounting (see picture 6). Otherwise this guaranteed original print remains in excellent condition. The print depicts a view of Miyajima island’s shinto shrine and its famous floating tori gate. This is one of Koitsu’s most famous prints.
