The overall work is done in light tones, and the white chrysanthemums express the soft texture of the petals using the air printing technique. Refined, dignified, and auspicious, it is a gem that is highly appreciated for celebrations. Although Katsukawa Shunsho is less well-known than Katsushika Hokusai and Toshusai Sharaku, he played an important role in the history of ukiyo-e. The works of Katsushika Hokusai and Toshusai Sharaku may have become different depending on the flow of “portrait” that he invented. In addition, the spread of actor paintings was due to the achievements of the Torii school, and they contributed to attracting audiences to Kabuki. However, the actor paintings did not capture individuality, and sometimes the same face was lined up. Katsukawa Shunsho created a revolution by drawing actors that capture the characteristics of people.
