This item was owned as a material at the Kyoto craft workshop and therefore has traces of utilized to hard (Exterior wear, back cover inside damage, paper scratches and slight contamination, etc). Iwasaki kanen, the author of this book, was a samurai of shogunate retainer, a man who studied plants for a lifetime. Issuance of the first edition of this book, which was one of the first full-fledged botanical books based on Herbalism in Japan, began in 1830. After that, when the first 6 books were issued in woodcut printing, the funds were depleted, and the subsequent volumes were distributed as manuscripts of reserved production. Distribution of 92 books was complete in 1828, and honzo-zufu was completed. According to the records, the total number of reservations is only 30 sets, and the first edition of this book is almost impossible to obtain. This 1922 version is the whole volume of Honzo-zufu completed by woodcut printing after more than 100 years since the first publishing, and the printing of this book which reproduced perfectly up to delicate neutral colors is highly appreciated. A comparison of the Japan name and scientific names of the plants contained in this volume has been added at the end of this book. The classification of plants in this book is based on the Chinese herbology book (Compendium of Materia Medica), which Kanen used for reference.
