Helen Hyde, born in New York, was an American etcher and engraver most well known for her woodblock prints of Japanese children and women. She graduated from Wellesley School for Girls and the California School of Design and then studied in Paris. Her works are in the Smithsonian. Signed along with Artists seal, this charming woodblock print depicts a young Japanese girl holding an umbrella. It is nicely framed and is double matted, the largest outside being a rich wood matting. Inside the matting measures 3.5″ x 8.5″ and the framed measurement is just under 9″ x 16.75″.
