Plese Check and Discription. Maeda Seison (real name: Maeda Renzo, January 27, 1885 – October 27, 1977) was a Japanese-style painter. Born in Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture. His wife was the fifth generation of Ogie Bushi, Ogie Ruyu. The husband of her third daughter is an art historian, Akiyama Mitsukazu. Seison was deeply steeped in the Yamato-e tradition, and his work centered on historical paintings, but he also showed a wide range in portraits and flower-and-bird paintings. He is especially famous for his precise depiction of armor and helmets in his samurai paintings. He was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit in 1955, and was active for many years as a representative of the art world and the Inten Exhibition. In his later years, he was involved in projects to preserve cultural properties, such as reproducing and copying the mural paintings of the Golden Hall of Horyuji Temple and the Takamatsuzuka burial mound. His legacy has been carried on by his disciples, including Ikuo Hirayama. The Seison Memorial Museum was located in Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture, and exhibits Seison’s donated paintings and drawings (closed in June 2015).
