Vintage frmd Japanese Wood Block Print of Shunman Kubota Seeking Pleasure
The title is Yuranosuke Ohboshi – Seeking Pleasure. This is a wood block print of the painting by Shunman Kubota (1729 – 1851) of the Ukiyo-e school of painters. Featured is a scene from the story of Samurai Yuranosuke Ohboshi who was obligated to avenge the death of his lord but was famous for his partying lifestyle. It was in fact this same lifestyle that he use to fool his enemies and allowed him to avenge his lord. Measurements: 15″ x 23″. The print is signed and chop marked and under glass. It is in excellent condition. The glass caused a bit of flashback to the camera which accounts for a slight blurriness in some photos. The framing is quite old, probably from the 1930’s -1940’s and there is a wire at the back for hanging.
