Sakai Hoitsu, who represents the Rinpa school following Sotatsu and Korin, specializes in flower drawings, and his lyrical and delicate brushstrokes formed the style of decorative painting in the late Edo period. This book “Four Seasons Flowers” was drawn by Hoitsu and his disciples in the late Edo period, and was published in the Meiji era by colored woodblock prints based on the original drawings.
