This listing is for a Japanese triptych by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (info from Kuniyoshi Project site). This is from the play: The Lifetime of Onoe Kikugoro III (Onoe Kikugoro ichidai banashi). (I have seen this referenced elsewhere as Fighting along the banks of the Oi River). Actors: Mimasu Gennosuke as Teranishi Kanshi on a palanquin being carried by coolies across the Oigawa River, Ichimura Uzaemon XII as Nakano Tohei subduing an opponent on the shore, and Onoe Kikugoro III as Tenjiku Kanja (Tokubei) standing on the shore. Date: 7th Month of 1847 (censors Muramatsu and Yoshimura). Each panel is attached to a backer card, pencil on top (Set #60, #1 left, #2 middle, #3 right), and each woodblock alone measures approx. 14-1/8″ x 9-7/8″; and each panel (backer) is approx.
