It is currently set in a vintage frame under glass. The older mat has caused a mat burn around the margins and we would recommend reframing it to avoid further degradation. Condition : Good – Image is very good, but mark from mat around edges. Very small bend/tear in upper right corner. Vintage frame has wear and rubbing. Measurements : Image is approx 12 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ and it is approx 20″x13.5″ framed. About the Artist : Toshi Yoshida was an artist of great breadth and vision. Though known primarily for his woodblock prints, he was also a remarkable painter and illustrator. His artistic style cannot be easily summarized, because he was constantly innovating and pushing the boundaries of the woodblock medium. His work ranges from realistic landscapes to imaginative abstract designs to detailed portraits of animals in their environments. Toshi was part of the second generation of the Yoshida family to work in the woodblock medium. Both his father, Hiroshi Yoshida, and mother, Fujio Yoshida, were artists and printmakers. Toshi first studied the techniques of woodblock printing in his father’s studio, and the subject matter of his earlier prints is reminiscent of Hiroshi’s work. However, there were personality and stylistic differences between Toshi and his father, and this comes through in their artwork. Compared to the misty grandeur of Hiroshi’s perfectly composed prints, Toshi’s early landscapes are more down-to-earth and straightforward. Toshi was masterful at depicting the charm of ordinary Japanese life, particularly in prints like. To name just a few. Occasionally he depicted famous landmarks, but his prints tend to focus on the human element rather than the monumental. Bradley Fine Art Gallery and Our Policies.
