This is one of a series of works titled “Nihon Keikan Shu Higashinihon Hen” (Japanese Landscapes of Eastern Japan) produced by Kawase Tomoe Sui in 1933. It depicts Futakojima Island in Matsushima, known as one of the Three Great Views of Japan. The twin islands are placed in the foreground, and the horizon line and heavy clouds hovering above it are depicted in the background, with the shining moon peeking out from between the clouds.
