Antique C1880 Japanese Ukiyoe Woodblock Print Gate Of New Imperial Palace FL234. Antique Japanese Ukiyoe Woodblock Print. This is a Japanese woodblock print Ukiyoe by Ikuhide Kobayashi. The kanji inscription says “Gate of New Imperial Palace”. The scene on this Ukiyoe print depicts a procession of foreign dignitaries leaving the new imperial place during the Meiji Period. Ukiyoe is a genre of Japanese art that flourished from the 17th through 19th centuries. Its artists produced woodblock prints and paintings of such subjects as female beauties, kabuki actors and sumo wrestlers, scenes from history and folk tales, travel scenes and landscapes, flora and fauna, and erotica.
