A color woodcut printing book which collects the Ukiyo-e of the Eiri-andon (pictorial lanterns). It is a beautiful and funny lantern that has enriched the rituals of Japanese Shinto since the Edo period. There were mainly fairy tales, famous scenes of samurai warriors, everyday scenes of the people of Edo, and caricatures were drawn together with comical tanka poetry (Kyoka). Pictorial lanterns can be seen not only in Shinto events, but also in Kabuki-za and Asakusa Nakamise even now.
