ARTIST: TSUKIOKA KOGYO (1869 – 1927). (the adopted son and student of the greatest UKIYO-E master of the Meiji era: YOSHITOSHI, hence the name). He also studied with Ogata Gekko. The influence of both artists is seen in his work. AGE: APPROX 100 years old. MEDIUM: WOODBLOCK PRINT (INK ON PAPER) NISHIKI-E. SIZE: 14 inches by 10 inches (38 cm X 25 cm). GENRE: THEATER PRINTS OR PICTURES. SERIES: A GREAT COLLECTION OF NOH THEATER IMAGES. SUBJECT: ACTORS, COSTUMES, NOH THEATER. CONDITION: very good, minor imperfections (see detailed pictures). DESCRIPTION: deluxe printing techniques, metallic pigments, and woodgrain on the background were used in the making of many of the prints in this series. Antique triptych wood block prints date to about the 1880s and is by Utagawa Fusatane and, according to the Demon AI, is titled “Flower of March: Cherry Blossom Viewing At Sumida”. The individual prints measure about 14″ by 9″; that is the size of the matt openings. The frame measures about 34″ long and 19.5″ tall. There are a few dark spots and whatclooks like a small repair to lower left of the right print. Otherwise, the print appears to be in pretty decent condition. See photos for more details.

WOODBLOCK PRINT multicolored Japan Ukiyoe art antique Utagawa EDO period. The name Ichiryuusai is that of Utagawa Yoshitoyo 1. He must have been a pupil of Kunisada at the end of the Edo period. There is no doubt that this is a multicolor woodblock print. It has some age-related deterioration and insect bites, but most of the figures can still be seen. The title “British on an excursion” suggests the scenery of the time. The frame has a loose lid at the back, but I think it can be repaired by an individual. The details of the printing are unknown, but we believe it is a rare item, and we would be grateful if you could preserve this cultural heritage in its present condition. The frame size:54cm×41cm. Utagawa Hiroshige is one of the most renowned ukiyo-e artists in the world. This work, “Moon Pine at Ueno Hill, ” is from his celebrated series. The print is a faithful hand-printed woodblock reproduction, carefully recreated using traditional techniques to convey the natural beauty and poetic atmosphere originally envisioned by Hiroshige. Moon Pine at Ueno Hill. The famous pine known as “Moon Pine” once stood near the stone steps leading down to Benzaiten at Shinobazu Pond in Ueno. Its branches were trained into a circular, moon-like shape. Hiroshige composed the scene so that the distant townscape of Hongo can be seen through the circular opening of the pine branches, creating a striking and mysterious effect, as if viewed through a telescope. The bold use of perspective, combined with the finely detailed depiction of the pine in the foreground, results in a highly effective and memorable composition.
