This print belongs to the celebrated series Western Flowers and Plants (Seiyo Kusabana Zufu), a collection of beautifully woodblock-printed botanical illustrations. This edition is hand-printed from the original woodblocks of the first edition, first published by Unsodo in the early 20th century. Reissued during the mid-20th century as a decorative art print, it is expertly printed by master craftsmen in Kyoto using traditional Ukiyo-e techniques on fine Japanese washi paper. The visible pigment bleed-through on the reverse is a natural characteristic of authentic hand-printed Japanese woodblock prints.
