Here is an original pencil signed Fred Harris woodblock print done in the Japanese manner. It is marked on the left corner A. On right it is marked ” For Ellen, from Fred Harris “. Here is some bio information on Fred Harris from the Saru Gallery website. Harris, Frederick 1932- 2010. Frederick Harris was born in Brooklyn, N. In the Korean War he came to Japan, stayed on and eventually founded the ” Design Studio ” , a prominent architectural firm in Tokyo. He was very active in Tokyo: he served as president of the Tokyo American Club, The Navy League and the Jewish Community Center, and he was involved in numerous other organizations. For his contributions to US-Japan relations he was awarded The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette by the Emperor. He established his name as an artist in the course of his stay in Japan. One of his paintings is on permanent display at the US Embassy in Tokyo. He died in Tokyo in November 2010. So this is a Japanese style woodblock print by an American artist who lived most of his years in Japan. Fred Harris also authored a book on woodblock prints entitled, ” Ukiyo-e/ The Art of the Japanese Print “. This print is in excellent condition with no damage. It has the paper print taped down to foam core on the back and then has the taped jointed black matt folded over the print. There is no frame. The print measures aprox. 5 1/8 inches tall by 21 1/8 inches long. The black matt measures 10 Inches tall by 26 1/8 inches long. A very fine piece of art in glorious understated subtle colors.
