Original Japanese Woodblock Utagawa Kuninao Ukiyoe, Edo period, #179. This original was printed in the Edo period. It features a woman in a kneeling pose. Condition is commensurate with age and use. Born in Shinano Province, he was the younger brother of the caricaturist Shuntei Sankyo. He began his career in 1812, painting portraits of actors and beauties, and produced illustrations for more than 200 printed books, including Tamenaga Shunsui’s Jinjo-bon. He greatly influenced his colleague Utagawa Kuniyoshi. Pose in which a woman kneels.
