Framed small size Toyokuni III (Kunisada) Japanese Woodblock print from 1848, from story by Mantei Oga. Likely original from 1848, given quality of silk matting, and gold edge as part of framing. Note that Toyokuni III (Kunisada) changed his signature in 1844, which aligns with signature in the print. Oga’s unconventional natures comes out clearly in this interesting illustration of mother and child. Of print only visible in frame: 17 mm x 11.4 mm; 6-3/4 in x 4.5 in possibly. Yotsugiri in size. With frame: 36.8 mm x 24 mm; 14-7/16 in x 9.5 in. Printer’s seal in lower left? Note some water damage at bottom of matte, other signs of age as would be expected for a 150+ year old print.
