The prints are woodblock prints of 54 scenes from Genjimonogatari, the oldest Japanese love story. Genjimonogatari-emaki (Genjimonogatari-emaki) is a well-known example of a painting based on the Genjimonogatari, and this print is also based on the Emaki This print is also thought to have taken its title from Emaki.
