An original woodblock print titled “The Hell Courtesan” by Tomioka Eisen (Jigoku Daiyu) Was with the novel Shiki soku Ze-ku which was serialized in the Bungei Kurabu literary magazine. The story is based ona Zen Buddhist sutra which can be tanslated as “Forever Emptiness”. “Kuchi-e” prints were woodblock prints included in Japanese novels & magazines in the early 1900’s. The frontispiece they would be j. Ust inside the cover. These prints always had 2 folds because of their inclusion in a magazine or book. Condition is fair, There’s the two folds, some light wrinkles and spotting in the lower right. (See close up photos). Oban size it’s 14 1/4 x 9 3/8 inches. Please see our “Other” items.
