Toshi Yoshida was a Japanese artist that was moved by his visit to Africa. “Kilimanjaro, Morning” portrays the early rays of morning sun lighting up the slopes of the mountain, while the savanna in the foreground, populated with zebra and Wildebeest, is still veiled in shadow. Toshi Yoshida is best known for his woodblock prints. He was also a painter and illustrator. His work consists of realistic landscapes, detailed portraits of animals, and some abstract works. Yoshida was a second-generation Japanese woodblock printmaker. Both his father, Hiroshi Yoshida, and mother, Fujio Yoshida, were artists. He learned the woodblock technique in his father’s studio.
