This volume is from the second series of the Kanga Shinan (A Manual for Painting in the Chinese Style) series. The series was initiated by the well-known artist Kanyosai in the 18th century, and updated by the great Kawamura Bunpo in the 19th century with a new series, now including color images. This book measures 6.75 by 10 inches closed, has yellow covers. Inside, 31 leaves (62 pages), all woodblock printed, numbered 1-2 (preface), 1-4 (table of contents), and 1-25 (pictorial content). 50 pages with woodblock prints by Bunpo, some in limited color printing. The content is focused on providing models for depicting different kinds of trees and foliage, with a great variety, plus some model images of buildings and boats. Condition: Covers are quite soiled and worn, title slip missing. The initial leaves (text) have some light brownish staining in the center (see photo of title page), and light spots of stain continue to appear on other leaves throughout, heavier again on the edge of the pages towards the rear (see final photos).
